Ingredients you will need to make button cookies
- ¾ cup softened butter
- cream cheese 3 ounces
- a cup of white sugar
- An egg
- A teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 of ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- A teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- Assorted colors for coloring.
Let’s make cookies
First fluffy cream butter, sugar, and cream cheese in a bowl. Then add egg and vanilla into it. Beat them until smooth.
In another bowl (medium size) combine flour, salt and baking powder. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture. Stir them until soft dough forms. Divide dough into 2 parts. Color each with a different food color. Wrap them in plastic wrapper and chill for two hours.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. (175 degrees C.)
Remove them from the refrigerator.
Pick one color at a time and on a lightly floured surface, Then roll dough until just over 1/8” thick.
Cut them 2-inch rounds with round cutter. On each round just in from the side, mark with smaller round cutter, approximately 1.5 inches diameter, pressing slightly. Run a metal spatula under the dough, to make sure it isn’t sticking to the table, spatter with flour underneath as necessary.
With the top of a small #3 piping tip (or you can use a straw) cut two/four holes in the center of each cookie, So it matches a button, Also make assured to push down to the counter, so that the small pieces fall out.
Then lift the dough with metal spatula onto a cookie sheet liner with a sil-pat, collect scraps and repeat.
Follow this same method to make other colors,
Make sure to clean your work surface between each color.
